If you’ve tried therapy before and found yourself going over the same old ground, retelling your story, revisiting the past, understanding why you feel the way you do but never quite feeling different, this is going to sound like a relief. π§
Solution-focused hypnotherapy takes the opposite approach. It’s less interested in where you’ve been and far more interested in where you’re going. It combines neuroscience, psychotherapy, and hypnosis to help you move forward, calmly, practically, and often surprisingly quickly.
Book A ConsultSolution-focused hypnotherapy is a modern, evidence-informed approach that blends talking therapy with relaxation and hypnosis to reduce anxiety and stress, and to help you build the life you want, by focusing on solutions and the future, rather than analysing the past.
Two words do the heavy lifting:
Solution-focused hypnotherapy works with how your brain actually functions. A few core ideas explain the whole approach:
We talk β but forward, not back.
Rather than dwelling on problems, we focus on what’s going well, what you want more of, and the next small step. It’s constructive and often genuinely uplifting.
You learn how your brain works.
Understanding the mechanism takes the fear out of it. Anxiety stops feeling like a mystery and starts feeling like something you can influence.
Then, hypnosis.
The session ends with hypnosis β a deeply relaxed state, much like the drifty feeling just before sleep. This is where your brain consolidates the positive focus from the session. You’re aware and in control the whole time. π§
Over time, you build a “mental first aid kit” β tools you keep for life, so the goal is never for you to need therapy forever.
| Solution-focused hypnotherapy | Traditional talking therapy | |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | The future and solutions | The past and root causes |
| Feel | Forward-moving, often uplifting | Can involve reliving difficult events |
| Length | Designed to be relatively brief | Often open-ended |
| The past | Context, not the work | Frequently the main focus |
This is why it so often works for people who’ve tried other things and felt “too complex to fix.” It’s not that other therapies are wrong β many help enormously. It’s that solution-focused hypnotherapy works on the brain and the pattern, not just the narrative.
Being sceptical is completely fine β most of my clients were (I was too). You don’t have to believe it will work. You just have to be willing to try.
It draws on well-established neuroscience and psychotherapy principles, and a growing body of research supports hypnotherapy for anxiety, stress and related issues. It’s a recognised modality practised by qualified, registered therapists.
No. Hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation, like the moment just before you fall asleep. You’re aware throughout and can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to.
It’s designed to be relatively brief compared to open-ended therapy, because the focus is on moving forward. The exact number depends on you and what you’re working on.
Only as much as is useful for context. The work itself is focused on the present and future, not on analysing or reliving what’s happened.
Yes β sessions over Zoom are just as effective as in person.
